North Carolina Official Background Checks

The Catawba County clerk offers a certified, name-based search of county court records for $25 through form AOC-CR-314. It can be ordered for oneself or another person. The detention facility grew from 83 beds in 1980 to 579 after expansions in 2007 and 2021. The county's detention information page documents that history.

Note: Keep any court clearance paperwork because an updated status may take time to reach every Catawba County record system.

Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records

Expunction is North Carolina's statutory term for removing qualifying records from ordinary access. Juvenile court records are confidential, and public systems also withhold protected victim information, Social Security numbers, and some investigative data. A dismissal does not by itself erase every booking entry. The relief depends on the statute and a court order.
